Operación de hernia discal grave

Clinical case

Severe herniated disc operation

In this case, we are talking about a young patient, around 40 years old, who comes to us with intense pain in his right leg that progresses to the sole of his foot.

Preoperative

This discomfort makes it difficult for him to stand for long periods of time, stand on his tiptoes, and the constant tingling he suffers is so uncomfortable that it even wakes him up during the night.

After performing the relevant diagnostic tests and proceeding to an exhaustive examination, he was diagnosed with a large herniated disc between the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebra, which occupies practically the entire canal and compresses the roots and neurological tissue that are housed in the column.

After considering all the possible options, an Advanced Spine Endoscopy is proposed to remove the hernia in an ultra-minimally invasive way.

Operation

A 3mm incision is made in the corresponding part of the back and, without causing any damage to the tissues, we access the affected area, directly to the canal of the lumbar vertebra.

After locating the work area, we soften the hernia and proceed to remove it and subsequently seal both the disc and the ring where the hernia has emerged to prevent future leaks.

We adequately verify that all the neurological structures have been decompressed and released and enjoy good tilt irrigation.

Postoperative

After surgery, anti-inflammatory drugs are administered to the patient in the area and the patient is discharged just 1 hour after leaving the operating room.

He no longer feels pain and can walk normally. The patient leaves the hospital with greater security and enthusiasm for being able to recover their normal life without discomfort, something that as doctors gives us great satisfaction.
