Clinical case
L5S1 disc herniation with percutaneous implant
The patient presents several cervical disc herniations, with certain complications due to the osteoarthritis suffered in the area. They are reflected laterally
Preoperative
The patient has a herniated disc at the L5S1 level on the right side, which causes pain that radiates from the leg to the sole of the foot that prevents you from doing any specific movement such as standing on tiptoe. In addition, there is a small herniation that is forming between the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae.
In this case it has been decided to perform two interventions:
- Percutaneous disc implantation
- Spinal endoscopy at the L5 vertebra
In order to relieve the patient of pain and prevent future hernia between the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae.
Operation
This herniated disc operation will be performed through minimally invasive spine surgery, making a small incision of about 2 or 3 mm through which the endoscope will be inserted in the area of the nerve of the disc in order to release tension and avoid the patient's pain and discomfort. compression symptoms.
Both levels are operated on, with a percutaneous implant performed on vertebra number four and vertebra number five.
Postoperative
The hernia has been removed using a minimally invasive technique with a 3mm incision, through which we have completely freed the nerve, removing all structures that could compress it. Once clean, everything has been closed with a stitch that is absorbable and does not need to be removed by a doctor.
The patient will see an immediate improvement, she will be able to walk a couple of hours after waking up from anesthesia and even go home on the same day of the operation. You will be able to live a comfortable and peaceful life by avoiding efforts for the first two days.
