Clinical Case Surgery to remove single-level disc herniation L5S1
In this case, the patient presents with severe sciatica, caused by a single-level disc herniation.
It is a case of minimally invasive surgery with endoscopy to eliminate the hernia and free the nerve roots.
Preoperative
The patient comes for herniated disc between the fifth lumbar vertebra and the sacrum of large size, having an inflammatory reaction that has caused calcification in the hernia, which has caused many adhesions that have caused the roots to not move naturally and have more compression, which causes sciatica with radiating pain in the leg, which directly affects the patient's mobility.
Operation
After the MRI study and clinical examination, it was decided to intervene. The operation is carried out by minimally invasive surgery, with endoscopy. The hernia is located through an incision of less than 3 millimeters, and its extension is determined and the nerves it is compressing.
It is extracted gradually, removing loose fragments and calcifications. A l is checkedcomplete neurological root release, in this case it compressed two roots: the passing root S1 and the protruding root L5. In this way, the neurological roots are released, there is no bleeding or scar that causes compression on the nerves.
Postoperative
The patient can walk at the end of the operation and is discharged in the hours after the operation. Spinal endoscopy does not require the use of belts or special care. A review will be carried out a month later to check that everything is progressing favorably.
