Clinical case
Clinical Case surgery for single-level disc herniation L5S1
In this case, it is not a herniated disc, but rather a healing problem. The disc bulges every time the patient stands up, which generates irritation and fibrosis around the root, which produces compression and a sensation of discomfort.
The pain radiates down the left leg, making it impossible to stand for long periods of time.
Preoperative
After an MRI, a herniation and an intervertebral disc that appears to be empty are observed. Due to the symptoms and not having improved with different rehabilitation techniques or medical treatments, it was decided to review the disc.Operation
When the camera is introduced, it is observed how the contents inside the disc are unstable and when the patient stands up it irritates the root.
There is a lot of fibrosis and scarring around the root, which is likely the cause of the patient's symptoms. Once the fibrosis has been removed, the root has been mobilized, the disc has been sealed and the unstable fragments have been removed. The root and canal have been completely freed, and the pain disappears immediately.
Postoperative
The patient will be discharged a few hours after the intervention. You will be able to lead a quiet life during the first days, and three or four days after the operation you will be able to begin rehabilitation treatment.
