Artroplastia vertebral con hernia entre el 6º y el 7º disco

Clinical case

Clinical Case: Disc arthroplasty between the 6th cervical hernia and the 7th vertebra

After finding a herniated disc with narrowing of the foramen, it was decided to address the injury with a minimally invasive Arthroplasty technique.

Preoperative

The patient had a herniated disc between the sixth and seventh vertebra, in addition to a narrowing of the foramen, the place where the nerve roots emerge.

At bedtime, he had a lot of pain in the right arm which woke him up at night, caused cramps, and even when he changed position it affected his left arm, due to the compression of the foramina found on both sides.

It was decided to use a conservative method, but it proved ineffective, so the pain increased.

Operation

It was decided to apply arthroplasty to treat our patient's pathologies.

This minimally invasive surgery technique, It consists of replacing the affected disc with a healthy one.

The approach is just 2 centimeters with a minimal opening, reaching the vertebral body through fluoroscopy and navigation.

The damaged disk is reached from the front and removed, then proceeding to remove the hernia from the back. Once we observe that the nerves are freed, we implant the mobile prosthesis.

Postoperative

Recovery is very quick, since natural mobility of the cervical spine is achieved from the next day.

The patient will be discharged from the hospital in less than 24 hours, being able to carry out their normal life.

At ICAC, Institute of Advanced Spine Surgery, we have traumatologists specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery.
